O Happy Dagger’s six members first met at an informal weekly jam session in their hometown. The group’s name is a tribute to the host of those get-togethers, Happy Johnson, as well as the playwright who first strung those three words together. You’ve probably heard of him. English guy. Bard.
The band’s members bring a diverse set of musical tastes to the group, which is evident in the wide spectrum seen in its repertoire. Songs by writers ranging from Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe to Ryan Adams and Sam Cooke can be found, all true to the original recordings yet somehow bearing the unmistakable stamp of O Happy Dagger. With lead vocals shifting between four members and new musical ideas coming from everyone involved, the band is truly an example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts.
